Sercomm Unleashes RDK Set-Top Box as Reference Hardware, Supercharging Developer Innovation
Sercomm, in collaboration with Broadcom, has made its RDK Video Accelerator set-top box available as reference hardware for application developers, also serving as a YouTube reference device. The device, based on Broadcom's BCM74116, offers high-performance features like LPDDR5 memory, edge AI capabilities, and Wi-Fi 7, aiming to streamline development and deployment on RDK-based platforms.
ATLANTA, Oct. 8, 2026 – Sercomm (TWSE: 5388), a leading provider of telecom and broadband equipment, announced today that it is collaborating with Broadcom to make its RDK Video Accelerator set-top box (STB) available as reference hardware for application developers. The device, based on the Broadcom BCM74116, will also serve as a YouTube reference device, providing a high-performance foundation for next-generation video entertainment, interactive TV, cloud gaming, and AI-enabled services.
The STB combines advanced features such as LPDDR5 memory, edge AI capabilities, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0, along with Matter and Thread compatibility and Post-Quantum Cryptography. "By providing a dedicated open-environment for development and testing, we aim to help accelerate application validation and enable a smoother path toward deployment on RDK-based consumer devices," said Daniel Whalen, Chief Commercial Officer of Sercomm. Lewis Brewster, Vice President of Marketing at Broadcom, added, "The Sercomm 74116 platform delivers a robust, scalable solution to the developer community and the operator market."
This move is expected to lower barriers for developers building on RDK, an open-source software standard that harmonizes core functions across broadband and video devices. Jason Briggs, President and GM of RDK, noted, "Ready access to current, high-performance hardware removes a real barrier for developers." The collaboration underscores the growing importance of open ecosystems in the telecom and video industries, potentially accelerating innovation and deployment of new services by operators worldwide.
