Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said Northeast Bankers Conclave in Mizoram will open up new opportunities for the state’s development.

Speaking to reporters after arriving at Lengpui Airport on Monday, Scindia said Mizoram had considerable potential for growth across various sectors. He said the state had an important role to play in the Centre’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

He added that development projects worth around ₹350 crore scheduled for inauguration would bring significant changes to Mizoram.

Scindia said the Northeast Bankers Conclave would explore ways to improve access to bank finance for entrepreneurs setting up micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as farmers. This, he said, would help increase production in the state.

He also highlighted Mizoram’s potential for oil palm cultivation, saying there was considerable scope for further growth. The conclave would discuss ways to help farmers earn better returns from oil palm production, he added.

This will be Scindia’s second visit to Mizoram since assuming charge of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.

According to officials, Scindia will travel to Tuivamit on the western outskirts of the capital, where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 10 developmental projects alongside Chief Minister Lalduhoma.

He will later visit Mizoram University, where he will interact with students, including participants of the Ministry of DoNER’s Ashtalakshmi Darshan Programme.

The Union minister will also inaugurate the North East Bankers’ Conclave 3.0 and deliver the keynote address at Mizoram University on October 13, officials said.

The conclave will bring together stakeholders from the banking sector to deliberate on strengthening financial inclusion, improving access to institutional credit and supporting economic growth across the northeastern states.

Officials said that Scindia’s two-day visit is aimed at reinforcing the Centre’s development partnership with the Northeast, while providing platforms for engagement with young people, civil society and financial-sector stakeholders.

The Union Minister will leave for Delhi after attending the Bankers' conclave on October 13, they said.
