PM Modi Extends Navratri Greetings as Nation Celebrates Nine-Day Festival

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended his greetings to the nation on the occasion of Navratri, a nine-day Hindu festival celebrated in honour of the divine feminine. The festival, which began today, is marked by fasting, devotional singing, and traditional dances such as Garba and Dandiya across various states. In a post on X, Modi wished citizens happiness and prosperity, saying, "May this festival bring new energy and enthusiasm in everyone's life."

Navratri, meaning 'nine nights,' is observed twice a year, with the autumn festival (Sharad Navratri) being the most prominent. It commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura and involves the worship of nine different forms of the goddess. Millions of devotees visit temples and community pandals, while cultural events and fairs are organised nationwide. The festival also holds significant economic importance for small businesses and artisans.

The Prime Minister's greetings come amid a busy political calendar, with several state elections approaching. Political leaders across parties have also extended wishes, emphasising the festival's message of unity and devotion. As celebrations continue, authorities have heightened security in major cities to ensure peaceful festivities. The festival will conclude with Dussehra, marking the triumph of good over evil.
