Glan Clwyd Hospital's accident and emergency department has recorded the longest waiting times in Wales, with one in four patients waiting 12 hours or more to be seen, according to new figures reported by the Rhyl Journal. Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor ranked third in the same rankings, where 2,856 of 15,372 patients — 18.6 per cent — waited at least 12 hours.

The data underscores the sustained pressure on emergency services across North Wales, where hospitals are grappling with high demand and capacity constraints. The 12-hour wait threshold is a key indicator of patient safety and system strain, and the proportion of patients experiencing such delays at Glan Clwyd and Ysbyty Gwynedd suggests significant challenges in patient flow and bed availability.

The rankings are likely to intensify scrutiny of Welsh Government health policy and local health board performance. Patient groups and opposition politicians may call for urgent action to reduce waiting times, while health officials will face questions on staffing, funding, and winter preparedness. Incisor News will continue to monitor official responses and any planned interventions.
