Aizawl 10th October,2026: World Mental Health Day 2026, observed globally to raise awareness for mental well-being, was commemorated yesterday at the I&PR Conference Hall, Lianchhiari Run. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Psychiatry, Kulikawn Hospital, Rosewood Hospital, and the National Mental Health Programme under the theme "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change."
Speaking as the chief guest, Pi Lalnunmawii Ralte, Additional Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, expressed her pleasure over the successful observance of World Mental Health Day 2026. Highlighting the purpose behind observing the day, she emphasized the importance of being responsive to the needs of individuals facing mental health challenges. She urged the attendees to spread public awareness that the mind, much like the physical body, can fall ill and suffer from serious ailments. During the event, she also officially released a commemorative poster prepared for the occasion.
World Mental Health Day has been observed annually across the globe on October 10 with designated themes since 1994. In Mizoram, the event was held yesterday for convenience. In honor of the day, mental health specialists and invited dignitaries addressed the gathering, elaborating on the current state of mental health in Mizoram, available care facilities across the state, and the vital importance of widely publicizing the round-the-clock professional helpline, Tele-MANAS (14416).
