Visa, the global payments giant, released a survey on Wednesday revealing that nearly half of consumers in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region are open to using stablecoins for payments by 2031. The survey, which polled 14,250 individuals across multiple APAC countries, indicates growing interest in stablecoin-based transactions despite widespread misunderstanding of the technology.

According to the survey, only 6% of respondents correctly understood how stablecoins function, underscoring a critical knowledge gap that could hinder adoption. Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies pegged to stable assets like the US dollar, designed to minimize volatility. Visa’s findings suggest that while awareness is rising, education remains a key challenge for mainstream acceptance.

The results have implications for financial institutions and regulators as they navigate the evolving digital payments landscape. With stablecoins gaining traction, particularly in cross-border payments and remittances, stakeholders must address consumer education to foster trust and safe adoption. Visa’s survey highlights the need for collaborative efforts to bridge the understanding gap and unlock the potential of stablecoins in the region.
