In a bid to promote tourism and enhance the state's image, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury distributed uniforms to prepaid taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala on October 10. The initiative, organized by the state Transport Department ahead of the Sharadotsav festivities, aims to instill a sense of professionalism and discipline among drivers who are often the first point of contact for tourists arriving in the state.

During the distribution event, Minister Chowdhury emphasized the importance of cleanliness, discipline, and courteous behavior, stating that these factors are crucial for strengthening Tripura's reputation as a tourist-friendly destination. The uniforms are expected to not only improve the visual appeal of the drivers but also encourage a more organized and welcoming environment for visitors. This move is part of a broader effort by the state government to boost tourism, which is a key contributor to the local economy.

The initiative has been welcomed by local driver associations, who see it as a step towards better recognition and professionalism. However, some critics argue that more substantial investments in infrastructure and training are needed to truly transform the tourism sector. The success of this program will depend on sustained efforts and the cooperation of all stakeholders. As Tripura prepares for the festive season, the government hopes that this small but symbolic gesture will yield significant dividends in terms of tourist satisfaction and repeat visits.
