SEC Launches Special Voter Registration Camps in Colleges and House-to-House Verification Drive

State Election Commission-appointed Voter Registration Officers have launched special camps in colleges and a house-to-house verification campaign to dispose of notices, claims and objections and enrol all eligible electors. The drive is part of an ongoing electoral roll revision aimed at cleaning up voter lists and maximising registration ahead of upcoming polls.

Voter Registration Officers have set up special camps in colleges and launched a house-to-house verification campaign as part of an ongoing electoral roll revision, with the stated aim of disposing of pending notices, claims and objections and enrolling all eligible electors. The camps are designed to give students and first-time voters a direct channel to register, while the door-to-door drive targets households that may have been missed in earlier roll updates.

The exercise is being conducted under the supervision of the State Election Commission, which has instructed registration officers to clear the backlog of claims and objections filed during the revision period. Officials said the camps will also allow electors to correct details, update addresses and respond to notices issued over discrepancies in the rolls. The commission has not yet released figures on the number of camps or households covered.

The campaign is significant because the accuracy of electoral rolls directly affects the credibility of upcoming elections, and opposition parties have in the past alleged that roll revisions can be used to exclude legitimate voters. The next steps will depend on how quickly the commission processes the claims and objections and whether the house-to-house verification leads to large-scale additions or deletions. Incisor News will update this story as official data becomes available.
