Samsung has integrated USDC stablecoin into its Samsung Blockchain Wallet, enabling 82 million Galaxy users to send cross-border remittances and local-currency payouts to bank accounts in over 60 countries starting late October. Samsung announced on Wednesday that it will integrate the USDC stablecoin into its Samsung Blockchain Wallet, allowing eligible Galaxy smartphone users to send cross-border remittances and local-currency payouts to bank accounts in more than 60 countries. The service is set to launch in late October, targeting Samsung's vast user base of 82 million Galaxy users worldwide.

The integration leverages USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar and issued by Circle, to facilitate faster and cheaper international transfers compared to traditional remittance services. Samsung's move follows a growing trend of tech giants embracing cryptocurrencies; for instance, Samsung already supports Bitcoin and Ethereum in its wallet. The company aims to tap into the $700 billion global remittance market, where fees can average 6.5% per transaction, according to World Bank data. 'This integration will make cross-border payments as simple as sending a text message,' said a Samsung spokesperson.

The development could disrupt traditional remittance providers like Western Union and MoneyGram, which have already faced pressure from fintech rivals. It also signals increasing institutional adoption of stablecoins, despite regulatory uncertainties in key markets like the US. Rivals such as Apple and Google may accelerate their own crypto initiatives in response. Samsung plans to roll out the service in phases, starting with select countries in Asia and Europe, with global expansion by early 2025.
