Oct 06, New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has praised the Indian Navy, saying that it is among the most powerful navies in the world.
Addressing naval personnel at a ‘Bada Khana’ held at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on Monday evening, the Defence Minister said the Indian Navy is making its presence strongly felt across the Indo-Pacific region.
Recalling the Navy’s glorious record of valour, he referred to its decisive role during the 1971 War, particularly Operation Trident, when Indian naval forces struck Karachi harbour.
Emphasising India’s transformation as a maritime power, Rajnath Singh said the Navy is keeping pace with 21st-century challenges by inducting indigenous aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines, stealth frigates and Scorpene submarines.
Calling for a broader maritime vision, the Defence Minister said India must move forward with the philosophy of ‘advancing from the seas towards prosperity and power’, with the oceans viewed not merely as maritime boundaries requiring protection but also as an avenue for economic development, strategic influence and national prosperity.
He also commended the naval personnel for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests and acknowledged the contribution and sacrifices of their families, whose support enables them to discharge their duties with dedication and commitment.
