Putin Calls Elon Musk a 'Real Genius' After Satellite Talks, Reveals 'Close' Contact

Russian President Vladimir Putin has described Elon Musk as a "real genius" and said the two are in "close" contact, remarks that followed talks reportedly involving satellites and the SpaceX chief executive. The comments, reported by BBC News, place the Kremlin's public praise for the billionaire at the center of an unusual diplomatic and technological story.

Putin's characterization of Musk as a "real genius" and his disclosure of "close" contact mark a notable public acknowledgment of the relationship between the Russian head of state and the SpaceX founder. The dispatch did not specify the timing, format, or substance of the satellite discussions, and no further details on the nature of the contacts were provided in the raw report.

The remarks are likely to draw scrutiny in Western capitals given SpaceX's role in satellite communications and the sanctions environment surrounding Russia. Analysts will watch for clarification from SpaceX, the Kremlin, and Western governments on what was discussed, while the story raises broader questions about private-sector space technology and its entanglement with geopolitics.
