Pope Leo XIV to Undergo Lung Surgery in Coming Days

Pope Leo XIV announced on Sunday during his weekly address in St. Peter's Square that he will undergo surgery in the coming days to remove a nodule in his lung. The pontiff, who appeared in good spirits, told the faithful that the nodule was detected at a very early stage and is well localized, suggesting a positive outcome.

The announcement comes as the 88-year-old pontiff continues to lead the Catholic Church amid a busy schedule. Medical experts note that early detection of lung nodules often allows for minimally invasive procedures and a swift recovery. The Vatican has not yet released further details about the exact date or hospital where the surgery will take place, but sources indicate it will be performed at Rome's Gemelli Hospital, where previous popes have received treatment.

The news has prompted an outpouring of support from Catholics worldwide, with many taking to social media to offer prayers for the pope's speedy recovery. The Vatican has stated that the pope will continue to fulfill his duties as much as possible during his convalescence, and any necessary adjustments to his schedule will be announced in due course. Global leaders and religious figures are expected to send well-wishes in the coming days.
