The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded forward Filip Hallander to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Spencer Stastney, the team announced on Tuesday. The deal sees the Penguins add depth to their blue line while the Oilers acquire a young forward with NHL experience.

Hallander, 26, returns to the Oilers organization where he was originally drafted in the second round (58th overall) in 2018. He has appeared in 41 NHL games, recording three goals and six assists. Stastney, 24, was a fifth-round pick by the Nashville Predators in 2018 and has played 28 NHL games, posting two goals and four assists. The trade provides Pittsburgh with a mobile, puck-moving defenseman to bolster their defensive corps.

The move is part of the Penguins' efforts to retool their roster and create competition on the blue line. For Edmonton, the acquisition of Hallander adds forward depth and a familiar face to their system. Both players are expected to report to their new teams for training camp. The trade is a minor swap that could have implications for each team's depth chart as the season progresses.
