Palaniswami Demands TVK Government Protect Vaazhndhu Kattuvom Project Workers' Jobs

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has urged the TVK-led Tamil Nadu government to protect the employment of workers in the Vaazhndhu Kattuvom Project. The appeal comes amid concerns over job security for thousands of beneficiaries under the state-run poverty alleviation scheme.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday urged the TVK-led Tamil Nadu government to ensure the protection of employment for workers engaged in the Vaazhndhu Kattuvom Project, a flagship poverty alleviation initiative. The appeal, made in a statement, comes amid growing uncertainty over the future of thousands of workers associated with the scheme.

The Vaazhndhu Kattuvom Project, launched in 2005 with World Bank assistance, aims to empower rural and urban poor through self-employment and skill development. Palaniswami highlighted that the project has benefited over 1.5 million families across the state and warned that any disruption would adversely affect livelihoods. He demanded that the government clarify its stance on the continuation of the scheme and the status of its workers.

The TVK government has not yet responded to Palaniswami's appeal. Political analysts suggest the issue could become a flashpoint between the ruling party and the opposition, especially with upcoming local body elections. Workers' unions have also threatened protests if their jobs are not secured. The government is expected to issue a statement in the coming days.
