9th October, Aizawl:  The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, organised a Mega Awareness Programme in Aizawl on 8 October 2026 at the Auditorium of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), as part of ESIC’s 75th Anniversary celebrations (2026–27). Held under the theme “Committed to Workers’ Welfare, Social Security & Nation-Building,” the programme aimed to enhance awareness of the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme and promote wider social security coverage for workers across Mizoram.

Pu Soumyaketu Mishra, IAS, Special Secretary, LESDE Department, Government of Mizoram, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by Shri Anil Kumar Sahu, Insurance Commissioner, ESIC, NE Zone; Shri Champak Biswas, Regional Director, ESIC, NE Region; Pi Helen ZochhingpuiiZote, Deputy Director, LESDE, Mizoram; ShriAhtesham, Deputy Director, ESIC, NE Regional Office; Dr. Lalmuanpuii Pachuau, Insurance Medical Officer, ESI Dispensary, Aizawl, along with employers, employees, representatives of various establishments and other stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Pu Soumyaketu Mishra, IAS, highlighted the importance of ESIC and emphasised that registration under ESIC provides workers and employers with greater “peace of mind” through comprehensive social security protection. He appealed to the participants to enrol eligible establishments and workers under the ESI Scheme and avail themselves of the maximum benefits available under the Scheme. He also encouraged participants to raise their queries and seek clarifications so as to dispel apprehensions and develop a better understanding of ESIC.

Shri Anil Kumar Sahu, Insurance Commissioner, ESIC, NE Zone, briefed the gathering on the evolution of the Social Security  and the emergence of  International Labour Organization (ILO) and ESIC. He explained the tripartite nature of ESIC, comprising the Government, employers and employees, and highlighted how the Corporation facilitates the delivery of social security benefits to insured workers and their families.

Shri Champak Biswas, Regional Director, ESIC, NE Region, gave an overview of the various benefits available under the ESI Scheme. He stated that, with the cooperation and support of the Government of Mizoram, efforts are being made to expand the coverage of the ESI Scheme across all 11 districts of Mizoram. He further informed the gathering that constructive discussions are underway between the State Labour Department and the Central Government regarding the establishment of an ESIC Hospital in Mizoram.

Shri Bhumidhar Barman, State Medical Officer, conveyed appreciation for the medical services being provided by ESI Dispensary, Aizawl, particularly in connection with the visit of Dr Alaka Pal, Medical Commissioner (NE Zone) on 08.10.2026. He elaborated on the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Care services available under ESIC. He also explained the Ward of IP Scheme, through which eligible children of Insured Persons can seek admission to MBBS courses against designated seats across India.

Dr Lalmuanpuii Pachuau, Insurance Medical Officer, ESI Dispensary, Aizawl, made a presentation in the Mizo language and explained the medical services and facilities available at the ESI Dispensary, Aizawl.

Shri David LalFakzuala, Assistant Director, Camp Office, Aizawl, explained the various benefits of the ESI Scheme in the Mizo language, enabling participants to better understand the provisions and facilities available under the Scheme. This was followed by a detailed PowerPoint presentation by ShriAhtesham, Deputy Director, ESIC, NE Regional Office, covering each aspects of ESIC, its services delivery mechanism, mandatory and penal provisions, and the various benefits available under the ESI Scheme.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 150 Insured Persons, beneficiaries, employers, employees and other stakeholders. An interactive session was also conducted, during which participants shared their feedback and sought clarifications regarding various provisions and benefits under the ESI Scheme in Mizoram.

During the interaction, Pi Manghaki, Principal, St. James School, Chawlhmun, Aizawl, highly appreciated the services being provided by ESIC in Aizawl. She stated that several employees of the school were availing themselves of ESIC services satisfactorily and encouraged other eligible establishments and employees to enrol under the Scheme.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a significant step towards strengthening awareness and expanding social security coverage for workers and their families in Mizoram.
