Justice on the Line: Tamil Nadu Minister Vanni Arasu Vows Unwavering Support for Kavin’s Family

Tamil Nadu Minister Vanni Arasu has assured that the state government will stand by the family of Kavin, a Dalit youth who died after an alleged caste-based assault, until justice is secured. The pledge comes amid ongoing demands for accountability and heightened scrutiny of caste violence in the state.

Tamil Nadu Minister Vanni Arasu on Thursday affirmed that the state government will stand by the family of Kavin, a young Dalit man who died following an alleged caste-based assault, until justice is secured. The assurance was given during a public address in Chennai, where Arasu met with Kavin’s relatives and reiterated the administration’s commitment to pursuing the case to its logical conclusion.

Kavin, a 22-year-old student, was allegedly attacked by a group of upper-caste men in a village near Madurai last month. He succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital, sparking widespread outrage and protests across Tamil Nadu. The incident has drawn parallels to other high-profile caste atrocities in the state, including the 2020 death of a Dalit man in Tuticorin. Arasu stated, “The government will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to justice. We are ensuring a speedy trial and have already arrested the main accused.”

The case has intensified debates over caste discrimination and the effectiveness of existing protective laws. Civil society groups have demanded a thorough investigation and enhanced safety measures for Dalit communities. The government’s response is being closely watched, with opposition parties accusing the ruling administration of insufficient action. Next steps include a scheduled court hearing next week and continued monitoring by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
