08 October, Agartala: As part of the nationwide campaign to build a TB-free India, the Joint Squad for Health (JOSH) Team was formally launched in West Tripura district today. The team was inaugurated by West Tripura District Acting Sabhadipati Biswajit Shil at an event held at the Matangini Pritilata Auditorium of Women’s College, Agartala.
MLA Minarani Sarkar, Director of Health Services Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Dr. Anjan Das, State TB Officer Dr. Nupur Debbarma and West District CMO Dr. Shankar Chakraborty were among those present.
Addressing the gathering, Biswajit Shil said the government’s primary objective is to make Tripura TB-free. He stressed that active participation of government departments, NGOs, elected representatives and the public at district and block levels is essential to achieve the goal.
Dr. Nupur Debbarma highlighted the importance of awareness and timely treatment, saying TB can be cured with proper medical care. Since January 2026, 2,562 TB cases have been reported in the state, while 725 panchayats have achieved TB-free status.
She said JASH teams will work not only towards TB eradication but also on cleanliness and de-addiction initiatives. Representatives who contributed to making different blocks TB-free were felicitated at the programme.
