JNTU-GV Scraps ₹3,000 Tatkal Fee, Certificates Now Online in Days for 90,000 Students
JNTU-GV Vice-Chancellor V.V. Subba Rao announced that students can now obtain certificates online within days without paying the ₹3,000 tatkal fee. The move will benefit about 90,000 students across 37 affiliated colleges in six north Andhra districts.
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Gurajada Vizianagaram (JNTU-GV) has launched an online certificate issuance system, allowing students to receive their documents within days without paying the ₹3,000 tatkal fee. The announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor V.V. Subba Rao, who stated that the initiative will benefit approximately 90,000 students enrolled in 37 affiliated colleges across six north Andhra districts.
The move eliminates a significant financial burden on students who previously had to pay the hefty tatkal fee for expedited service. Under the new system, certificates will be processed and delivered digitally, reducing paperwork and turnaround time. The university expects the online portal to streamline operations and enhance transparency. Vice-Chancellor Subba Rao emphasized that the reform aligns with the institution's commitment to student welfare and digital governance.
The initiative is part of a broader push for digital transformation in higher education in Andhra Pradesh. While the move has been welcomed by student groups, challenges such as digital literacy and internet access in rural areas remain. The university plans to set up help desks to assist students. If successful, the model could be replicated by other universities in the state, potentially setting a new standard for efficient student services.
