J&K Government Notifies City Gas Distribution Policy 2026 to Expand Clean Fuel Access
Jammu and Kashmir Government has notified the City Gas Distribution Policy 2026 to expand PNG and CNG access across all 20 districts. The policy provides time-bound clearances, streamlined CNG infrastructure and priority industrial connectivity, promoting cleaner energy, industrial growth, investment and employment opportunities.
Srinagar, Oct 8: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has notified the Jammu & Kashmir City Gas Distribution (CGD) Policy, 2026, following its approval by the Council of Ministers, aimed at expanding clean fuel access and strengthening energy infrastructure across the Union Territory.
The policy provides an investor-friendly and time-bound framework for expanding the use of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) among households, commercial establishments, industries and the transport sector.
Under the policy, all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir will be covered, with provisions for single-window and time-bound clearances, streamlined establishment of CNG stations and standardised Right of Way norms.
Priority has also been accorded to gas connectivity for major industrial estates, including those in Kathua, Samba and Pulwama, with the objective of supporting industrial growth and improving access to cleaner energy.
The policy is expected to facilitate access to safe, affordable and cleaner fuel, reduce energy costs, enhance industrial competitiveness and encourage green investments. It is also envisaged to generate opportunities in employment, apprenticeships and skill development.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Satish Sharma and the concerned Department on the notification of the policy.
The Chief Minister said the policy would contribute to cleaner growth and sustainable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
