Jantar Mantar Showdown: AISA Activists Return After Mass Detentions, Demand CEC Gyanesh Kumar's Resignation

AISA activists returned to Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, a day after mass detentions, to continue protesting against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and demand his resignation. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced another protest in Delhi on October 10 if Kumar does not step down. The renewed agitation underscores escalating tensions over the integrity of India's election administration.

Activists from the All India Students' Association (AISA) returned to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Tuesday, resuming their protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and demanding his resignation. The renewed demonstration came just a day after police detained numerous activists in a mass crackdown aimed at dispersing the ongoing agitation.

The protest, led by AISA and supported by other civil society groups, has gained momentum following allegations of electoral misconduct and demands for greater transparency in the Election Commission's functioning. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, speaking to reporters, warned that if Gyanesh Kumar does not resign, the group will stage another major protest in Delhi on October 10. "We will not back down until our demands are met," Dipke said, emphasizing the peaceful nature of their movement. The Election Commission has not yet issued a formal response to the calls for Kumar's resignation.

The ongoing protests highlight growing public scrutiny over the independence of India's electoral body, with opposition parties and activists questioning recent decisions. International observers are monitoring the situation, as any prolonged unrest could impact India's democratic image. The government's handling of the detentions has also drawn criticism from human rights groups. With the October 10 deadline looming, all eyes are on whether the CEC will address the protesters' demands or if the agitation will escalate further.
