Israel recommends pilot Machchhar for Civilian Heroism Award
Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar has been recommended for Israel’s Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism after fighting off a mid-air attacker and helping save over 170 lives.
October 9, New Delhi: Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian pilot of flydubai flight FZ1073, has been recognized for his extraordinary bravery during a mid-air attack.
Despite being stabbed and severely injured, he fought off the attacker and opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers to intervene and prevent a catastrophic situation.
His actions saved the lives of more than 170 passengers and crew members. Israeli President Isaac Herzog has recommended the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism for Captain Machchhar and 4 Israeli Civilians for their extraordinary conduct during the incident.
The award underscores the international recognition of Captain Machchhar's heroism and the courage of the Israeli passengers who acted decisively to save lives.
