Hong Kong Airport Authority Takes Over 11 Skies, Eyes High-End Tourism Landmark

The Airport Authority will take over the 11 Skies commercial project next April and reposition it as a high-end tourism landmark, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said on Saturday. The move follows developer New World Development's announcement on Wednesday that it would return the project to the authority.

Chan, speaking for the first time since the handover was made public, said the two sides had reached an agreement and that the government expects the repositioning to require minimal public investment. The 11 Skies project, located near Hong Kong International Airport, was originally envisioned as a major retail, dining, and entertainment complex.

The takeover marks a significant shift in Hong Kong's approach to large-scale commercial developments, with the government aiming to boost tourism appeal while limiting financial exposure. Details on the revamped project's timeline, investment, and tenant mix are expected to be announced in the coming months.
