At the Red Run event in Vijayawada on Sunday, the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) chief stated that misconceptions about HIV still fuel discrimination, underscoring the need for continued awareness. The 5K run, organized by the AIDS Control Society, aimed to promote awareness and reduce stigma, with participants from across the state.

Salur student M. Naresh and Chirala’s E. Swathi won the State-level 5K run, demonstrating youth engagement in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The APSACS chief emphasized that despite progress in treatment, social stigma remains a major barrier, preventing people from seeking testing and care. The event also highlighted the importance of community involvement in eradicating discrimination.

The Red Run serves as a platform to educate the public and foster an inclusive environment for those affected by HIV. With ongoing efforts by APSACS and similar organizations, the focus remains on dispelling myths and ensuring that individuals living with HIV can lead dignified lives. Next steps include expanding outreach programs and integrating HIV awareness into broader public health initiatives.
