In an emergency meeting held in Karachi on Friday, Provincial Minister for Food Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman announced a reduction in flour prices by Rs6 per kilogram, bringing the ex-mill rate down to Rs155. The decision came after discussions with the Flour Mills Association to address the recent surge in flour prices and provide immediate relief to consumers.

The meeting was convened in response to public outcry over the escalating cost of flour, a staple food in Pakistan. The minister emphasized the government's commitment to stabilizing prices and ensuring affordability. The Flour Mills Association agreed to the reduction, citing cooperation with the provincial government to mitigate the burden on citizens. This price adjustment follows a series of measures aimed at curbing food inflation, which has been a persistent challenge for the region.

The reduction is expected to offer temporary relief to households, but long-term solutions to food inflation remain uncertain. Consumer groups have welcomed the move but urge sustained efforts to prevent future price hikes. The government plans to monitor the implementation and may consider further interventions if necessary. This development highlights the ongoing struggle to balance market dynamics with public welfare in Pakistan's economy.
