The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday moved the Telangana High Court seeking a speedy trial in the money laundering cases against YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. The agency filed a petition highlighting that despite several years having elapsed since the court took cognizance of the cases, there has been no significant progress in the proceedings.

The ED's move comes amid ongoing legal battles involving Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has been facing allegations of money laundering and corruption. The cases, registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), pertain to alleged irregularities in investments and quid pro quo transactions during his tenure. The agency has argued that the delay in trial is impeding the effective prosecution of the cases and has urged the High Court to direct the lower court to expedite the proceedings. Official sources indicate that the ED has cited the prolonged pendency as a major hurdle in bringing the matter to a logical conclusion.

The development is significant as it underscores the ED's push for faster resolution in high-profile cases involving political figures. It also comes at a time when Jagan Mohan Reddy's party is gearing up for upcoming elections, and the legal proceedings could have political ramifications. The Telangana High Court is expected to hear the petition in the coming days, and its decision could set a precedent for similar cases. The YSRCP has not yet issued a formal response to the ED's move, but the party has previously dismissed the cases as politically motivated.
