Democrats Threaten Probe of OMB Director Vought’s ‘Illegal Actions’ if They Win Midterms

Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) said Friday on MS NOW’s “The Last Word” that if Democrats win the House majority in the midterms, they will investigate Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought’s “illegal actions.” Boyle also stressed that the affordability agenda must remain front and center for Democrats.

In a Friday appearance on MS NOW’s “The Last Word,” Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) said that if Democrats win the majority in the upcoming midterm elections, they will investigate Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought’s “illegal actions.” Boyle’s remarks signal that congressional oversight of the OMB could become a central focus should Democrats reclaim the House.

Boyle, a senior Democrat on the House Budget Committee, did not specify which actions he considers illegal, but his comments come amid ongoing Democratic scrutiny of Vought’s tenure, including his role in implementing controversial budget cuts and regulatory rollbacks. Boyle also emphasized that Democrats must prioritize an “affordability agenda” to address voters’ economic concerns, saying, “while I’ve said that, I think the affordability agenda has to be front and center.”

The threat of investigations adds to the already charged political atmosphere ahead of the midterms, with Democrats aiming to frame their platform around both economic populism and accountability. If Democrats win the majority, Boyle’s promise could lead to subpoenas, hearings, and potentially legal battles over Vought’s actions. The White House has not yet responded to Boyle’s remarks, and it remains unclear whether other Democratic leaders will adopt a similar stance.
