Byju’s Parent Secures 32% Stake in Aakash After Settlement

Think & Learn Pvt Ltd (TLPL), the parent of Byju’s, will hold a 32% stake in Aakash Educational Services after a settlement, up from the roughly 25.75% it owned before a Rs 240-crore rights issue dispute. The higher holding follows Aakash withholding shares TLPL had subscribed to, which had sharply reduced TLPL’s recorded stake.

Think & Learn Pvt Ltd (TLPL), the parent company of edtech giant Byju’s, is set to hold a 32% stake in Aakash Educational Services following a settlement, according to a report by The Economic Times. The development resolves a dispute over a Rs 240-crore rights issue that had seen Aakash withhold a portion of the shares TLPL had subscribed to, sharply reducing TLPL’s recorded stake.

The eventual 32% holding is higher than the approximately 25.75% TLPL owned before the rights issue became the subject of litigation last year. The rights issue, launched to infuse capital into Aakash, had triggered a legal battle after Aakash withheld shares, leading to a significant drop in TLPL’s recorded ownership. The settlement restores and slightly increases TLPL’s stake, though the exact terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

The resolution provides some clarity amid Byju’s broader financial and legal challenges, including debt restructuring and disputes with investors. It remains to be seen how the settlement affects Aakash’s operations and Byju’s efforts to stabilize its business. Stakeholders will be watching for further details on the settlement and any impact on Byju’s ongoing restructuring efforts.
