Bristol Firefighters Sound Alarm on Lithium-Ion Battery Fires at Oct. 17 Open House

BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Bristol Tennessee Fire Department will host its annual open house on October 17, featuring family-friendly activities and a special focus on lithium-ion battery fire safety, the department announced. The event aims to raise awareness about the growing risks associated with rechargeable batteries found in everyday devices.

Lithium-ion batteries power everything from smartphones to electric vehicles, but when damaged or improperly charged, they can overheat and ignite, leading to fast-spreading fires that are difficult to extinguish. Fire officials say public education is critical as such incidents rise nationwide. The open house will provide demonstrations and tips on safe charging, storage, and disposal of these batteries.

The initiative reflects a broader push by fire departments across the country to address emerging technology-related hazards. Attendees can expect hands-on exhibits, fire truck tours, and safety workshops. The department encourages residents to attend and learn how to protect their homes and families from battery-related fires.
