BJP MLA B.B. Gopakumar on Wednesday questioned the Kerala government’s handling of an anti-corruption inquiry against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the delayed action “raises suspicion.” The BJP Keralam unit demanded immediate clarity on the status of the investigation, which was reportedly initiated following corruption allegations against Kumar.

The inquiry, launched by the Kerala government, has seen little apparent progress, prompting the BJP to accuse the state administration of deliberate inaction. Gopakumar, speaking to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, said the delay suggests a lack of political will to pursue the case. The Kerala government has not yet issued a formal response to the BJP’s allegations. The Election Commission of India, which Kumar heads, has also remained silent on the matter.

The controversy comes amid heightened political tensions in Kerala, with the BJP seeking to corner the ruling front over corruption issues. The delay in the inquiry could fuel further opposition attacks and raise questions about the independence of the Election Commission. Next steps may include the BJP filing a formal complaint or seeking a court-monitored probe, while the Kerala government may face pressure to expedite the investigation or clarify its position.
