Amazon's Prime Video Reportedly Eyes Sean McVay to Replace Kirk Herbstreit on Thursday Night Football

Amazon's Prime Video has reportedly re-signed NFL analyst Kirk Herbstreit to continue calling Thursday Night Football games, but the streaming giant is simultaneously keeping an eye on Super Bowl-winning coach Sean McVay as a potential replacement, according to a report from The Athletic's Andrew Marchand. The development, first reported by BroBible, indicates that while Herbstreit remains the current voice of TNF, his new deal includes a catch that could leave him seeking new opportunities.

Herbstreit, a longtime college football analyst and NFL commentator, has been part of Prime Video's Thursday Night Football coverage since the streamer took over the package in 2022. McVay, the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, led the team to a Super Bowl LVI victory in 2022 and is widely regarded as one of the NFL's brightest offensive minds. While McVay has not indicated any plans to leave coaching, his name has frequently surfaced in broadcasting rumors due to his charisma and football acumen. The report does not specify the exact terms of Herbstreit's new deal or the nature of the catch.

The potential succession plan highlights the intensifying competition among networks and streaming platforms for top NFL broadcasting talent. If McVay were to transition to the booth, it would be a major coup for Prime Video, but it would also leave a significant void for the Rams. For now, Herbstreit remains in place, but the report suggests that Amazon is proactively planning for the future. Neither Prime Video nor McVay's representatives have commented publicly on the speculation.
