Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on [date] threw down the gauntlet to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, daring him to contest the upcoming assembly election from Ayodhya. The challenge, issued during a public address, sets the stage for a high-profile political battle in the temple town.

Yadav, who promised to accelerate Ayodhya's development if elected, accused the BJP government of carrying out rampant demolitions under the pretext of development. He cited the recent demolition drives in the state as evidence of the government's anti-people policies. The SP leader's remarks come amid heightened political activity in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 assembly polls.

The challenge is seen as a strategic move to corner Yogi Adityanath, who has strong ties to Ayodhya and is a prominent Hindutva figure. It remains to be seen whether the Chief Minister will accept the challenge. Political analysts suggest that the contest from Ayodhya could become a symbolic battle for the BJP's Hindutva agenda and the SP's development narrative. The Election Commission is yet to announce the poll schedule.
