India is celebrating Air Force Day today, October 8, commemorating the establishment of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 1932. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in extending greetings to IAF personnel, praising their dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding the nation's skies. The day is marked by ceremonial events, including a grand parade and air show at a major airbase, showcasing the IAF's operational prowess.

Air Force Day holds historical significance as it honors the bravery and service of air warriors. The IAF, initially established as a supplementary force, has evolved into a formidable aerospace power with a fleet of advanced fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters. In recent years, the IAF has undertaken critical missions, including Balakot airstrikes and humanitarian assistance during disasters. The government has emphasized self-reliance in defence manufacturing, with initiatives like Make in India boosting indigenous production of Tejas fighters and other systems.

The celebrations come amid ongoing modernization efforts, including the procurement of Rafale jets and development of AMCA. The IAF's role in strategic deterrence and regional stability remains paramount. As the nation salutes its air warriors, the focus is also on future challenges, including technological advancements and evolving security threats. The event underscores India's commitment to a strong and capable air force, ready to defend its sovereignty.
