Adani Power and Bhutan's state-owned Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd. (DGPC) have signed a shareholders' agreement to develop the 770 MW Chamkharchhu-I Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan. The agreement was signed in the presence of Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, marking a major step in hydropower cooperation between the two countries.

The Chamkharchhu-I project is part of Bhutan's efforts to harness its vast hydropower potential, with India being a key partner in these initiatives. The collaboration between Adani Power and DGPC is expected to enhance energy security in the region and strengthen bilateral ties. The project's capacity of 770 MW will contribute significantly to Bhutan's power generation and export capabilities.

This agreement follows a series of recent developments in India-Bhutan energy cooperation, including the signing of several MoUs for hydropower projects. The project is likely to attract further investment and could set a precedent for future public-private partnerships in the region. The next steps include finalizing the project's financial closure and commencing construction, with completion targeted in the coming years.
