The Jammu Division of Northern Railway collected Rs 48.88 lakh in revenue through an intensive ticket checking drive conducted during September to curb ticketless and irregular travel.

The special drive, conducted by the Ticket Checking Squad from September 1 to 30, resulted in the detection of 6,617 cases, generating railway revenue of Rs 48,88,890.

The cases included travelling with irregular tickets as well as violations such as smoking and littering on railway station premises and in trains.

The drive was conducted under the leadership of the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, covering major stations including Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Udhampur and Pathankot Cantt, besides various trains operating in the division.

Railway authorities said the sustained checking drive is aimed at ensuring compliance with passenger rules and promoting disciplined travel practices.

Jammu Division has appealed to passengers to travel only with valid tickets and refrain from smoking on station premises and in trains. Passengers have also been urged to maintain cleanliness and dispose of waste responsibly.

The railway authorities reiterated that ticketless travel, smoking and littering are punishable offences and appealed to passengers to cooperate with railway staff in maintaining a safe, clean and orderly travel environment.
