Jagan Slams Coalition Government for 'Misleading' BCs on 34% Local Body Quota

YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the coalition government of misleading Backward Classes (BCs) regarding the 34% local body reservation quota. He stated that if the government were serious about BC reservation, it should have persuaded the Centre to create a constitutionally and legally sustainable mechanism.

YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on [date] alleged that the coalition government has misled Backward Classes (BCs) regarding the 34% reservation quota in local bodies. Speaking to reporters in [location], Reddy accused the government of failing to deliver on its promise to ensure BC reservation, stating that it should have persuaded the Centre to create a constitutionally and legally sustainable mechanism.

Reddy's remarks come amid ongoing debate over BC reservation in local body elections in Andhra Pradesh. The 34% quota for BCs in local bodies has been a contentious issue, with previous attempts facing legal hurdles. The YSRCP chief emphasized that mere political rhetoric would not suffice and that the government must take concrete steps to ensure the reservation stands legal scrutiny. He pointed out that the coalition government had promised to implement the quota but has not taken any effective action.

The allegation adds pressure on the coalition government, which has been facing criticism from opposition parties over its handling of reservation issues. It remains to be seen whether the government will respond to Reddy's challenge and take steps to persuade the Centre to formulate a sustainable mechanism. The development is likely to intensify political discourse in Andhra Pradesh, with BCs being a significant vote bank. Further reactions from the government and other political parties are awaited.
