Dr Jitendra Singh Follows Up on Doda Man’s Death in NZ
Union Minister says the Indian High Commission in Wellington is coordinating with New Zealand authorities and the family to facilitate repatriation of Sandesh Singh’s mortal remains.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has said that the matter concerning the reported death of Sandesh Singh of Doda in a road accident in Queenstown, New Zealand, is being closely followed up with the High Commission of India in Wellington.
The issue was brought to the Union Minister’s attention following a request for assistance from the bereaved family through Doda West MLA and former Minister Shakti Raj Parihar.
According to the latest communication from the Indian High Commission, New Zealand Police have informed the Mission about a fatal road accident involving a person believed to be Sandesh Singh, an Indian passport holder. The formal identification process is currently underway.
The High Commission is maintaining close contact with New Zealand Police and coordinating with the family as well as the local Indian community in Queenstown.
The Mission has assured that all possible consular assistance will be provided following formal confirmation of the identity and completion of the required legal and administrative formalities.
Dr Jitendra Singh said the matter is being continuously followed up with the High Commission and all possible efforts are being made to facilitate the repatriation of the mortal remains to India at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the Indian community in Queenstown is also coordinating with the family and has reportedly initiated fundraising efforts to meet the expenses involved in bringing the mortal remains back to India.
