Tripura to Formulate State-Specific Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan: Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma

October 06, Agartala:  Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma said that a state-specific Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan will be prepared for Tripura in alignment with the national plan. He made the statement today while inaugurating a state-level consultative workshop on Tripura’s Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala today.
The Minister said that based on this strategic plan, the government will work towards the conservation and development of Tripura’s biodiversity in the coming days. He further said that, along with conserving Tripura’s rich biodiversity, ensuring coexistence between humans and other living beings is one of the key objectives. The plan is being undertaken with the aim of making Tripura greener and more prosperous while protecting all elements of nature, including wildlife, plants and water bodies.
He said that a comprehensive strategy will be prepared based on the collective participation, opinions and experiences of engineers, experts, members of Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) and all other concerned stakeholders. Work will be taken forward in the coming days according to this strategy.
The main objective of the workshop was to present the draft action plan before the concerned stakeholders and collect their opinions, suggestions and experiences. During the inaugural session, Tripura Biodiversity Board (TBB) Chairman and Member Secretary Rabindra Kumar Samal delivered the welcome address. On behalf of the Everain Team, the overall framework of the draft SBSAP was presented. Later, the technical session discussed the detailed action plan and the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders. An interactive session on BIOFIN was also held.
