Ronaldo Quits Portugal Camp: Coach Jesus Says Door Open for Return

Cristiano Ronaldo has left the Portugal national team squad, the Portuguese Football Federation confirmed on Wednesday. The 38-year-old forward, who has been capped 200 times for his country, departed the camp ahead of upcoming fixtures, though no official reason was given. Head coach Fernando Jesus addressed the situation, stating that Ronaldo is welcome to return to the squad if he chooses.

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner and the all-time leading scorer in men's international football, recently completed a controversial move to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr after his contract at Manchester United was terminated in November. His departure from the Portugal camp comes during a period of transition for the national team, which is preparing for Euro 2024 qualifiers. Jesus, who took over as Portugal coach in 2022, has emphasized the importance of squad unity and performance.

The news has sparked widespread speculation about Ronaldo's international future, with fans and pundits debating whether the legendary forward will don the Portugal shirt again. While Jesus's comments suggest the door is open, Ronaldo's next move remains uncertain. Portugal's upcoming matches will be closely watched as the team navigates this potential distraction. Further updates are expected from the Portuguese Football Federation in the coming days.
