Robinhood Markets Inc. has added approximately $25 million worth of bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet, a senior executive revealed on Wednesday. The disclosure was made by the company's Senior Vice President and General Manager of Crypto and International during an appearance on CoinDesk's "Starting Block" program.

The purchase marks a significant step for the retail brokerage, which has been expanding its cryptocurrency offerings. While the exact timing and average purchase price were not disclosed, the move aligns with a broader trend of public companies allocating treasury reserves to bitcoin as a hedge against inflation and a strategic bet on digital assets. Robinhood has not yet filed an official 8-K or press release regarding the transaction.

The addition could bolster Robinhood's crypto credibility and attract more users to its platform, but it also exposes the company to bitcoin's notorious price volatility. Investors and regulators will be watching to see if other brokerages follow suit, and whether Robinhood provides further details in its next earnings call.
