At 83, Richard J. Raven is proving it’s never too late to pursue a lifelong passion. Mr Raven recently published a book, The Wildman and Other Stories, a collection of 20 unique short stories, most drawn from his imagination, while some are based on lived experiences. He said his love and deep appreciation for literature have been a constant throughout his life. "Well, I was born in South Australia, and I came to Melbourne in 1949," Mr Raven said. "I just love reading; I have read all my life." His passion for writing thrived after he joined Horsham's U3A's Writing For Fun group around five or six years ago. "Quite a few short stories in that book are from my time at the group," Mr Raven said. He started writing The Wildman and Other Stories about six months ago, drawing inspiration from writing prompts, photographs and his own imagination. "I have an active imagination," Mr Raven said. The title story, The Wildman, was inspired by a video Mr Raven encountered on social media. "It was one of those little videos you get on Facebook, and I thought that's not adequate. It was all AI, the whole thing," he said. Rather than accepting the short video, he was motivated to develop the idea into his whole story. Mr Raven said his writing is influenced by authors such as Dennis Wheatley and Bernard Cornwell, whose books he has enjoyed for years. "I love Bernard Cornwell's stuff. I have read pretty much every book he has written," he said. "I used to have a whole collection of Dennis Wheatley. Dennis was a brilliant writer." He acknowledged that Wheatley's descriptive style heavily influences his own writing style. While some of his stories explore faith, many others come from his experiences or imagination, including the story of an old drover, which is based on real events. Mr Raven added that he considered his ability to write a gift and was very humbled to have discovered it later in life. "I was over 80 when I wrote my first book," he said. He encourages aspiring writers to put their ideas into words, regardless of experience or age. "If you think you'd like to write - start writing!" he said. "It doesn't matter how old you are." "The more you write, the more you activate your brain cells." The Wildman and Other Stories is available through Amazon as an eBook or paperback. "I'm 83 now; I'm just getting started," Mr Raven said. To stay up to date with Richard's latest writing projects, visit: https://richardjravenauthor.com.au/latest.
Market & Strategic Implications
Beyond immediate headlines, market participants are weighing secondary effects. The intersection of capital allocations, regulatory scrutiny, and shifting macroeconomic postures continues to elevate risk sensitivity across comparable assets and jurisdictions.
As further clarity emerges in upcoming briefings, institutional observers emphasize unit economics, policy enforcement, and counterparty exposure as primary barometers for long-term trajectory.
