In a dramatic political reversal, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday reinstated her nephew Akash Anand as the party's national convenor, less than a month after expelling him from the organisation. The decision, announced in a statement, comes as the BSP gears up for crucial upcoming Assembly elections in several states.

Mayawati said the move was made in the interest of the BSP and the broader Bahujan movement, citing feedback from party workers who noticed positive changes in Anand's conduct and working style. Anand, who was expelled in late April for alleged anti-party activities, had been a rising star in the BSP and was seen as a potential successor to Mayawati. His expulsion had sparked internal turmoil and raised questions about the party's leadership direction.

The reinstatement is being viewed as a strategic move to consolidate Dalit votes and present a united front ahead of the electoral battles. Political analysts suggest that Mayawati's decision reflects the need to harness Anand's appeal among younger voters and counter challenges from rival parties. The BSP's next steps, including Anand's role in the campaign, will be closely watched as the party seeks to regain its political footing in key states.
