Maharashtra Poll Body to BLOs: Accept Voter Documents on WhatsApp, Verify at Homes if Needed

Maharashtra's Chief Electoral Officer, S. Chockalingam, has instructed Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to accept voter documents via WhatsApp as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The directive, issued as the deadline for claims and objections was extended to October 12, aims to streamline document submission for voters who may face difficulties in physical delivery.

The SIR exercise, a door-to-door verification drive, is intended to update electoral rolls and remove discrepancies. BLOs have been authorized to accept documents through WhatsApp and, if required, conduct home visits to verify authenticity. This move comes amid concerns over voter accessibility and the need to ensure accurate rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
