Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberian government, in collaboration with the Agricultural and Industrial Training Bureau (AITB) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has successfully conducted a nationwide mapping of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. The exercise, announced this week, is designed to bridge the country’s skills gap by aligning vocational training with industry needs and national economic priorities.

The mapping covered TVET centers across all 15 counties, assessing their capacities, curricula, and infrastructure. According to officials, the data will inform a comprehensive strategy to revamp vocational education, ensuring graduates possess market-relevant skills. The initiative is part of Liberia’s broader efforts to stimulate economic growth and reduce unemployment, particularly among youth. “This mapping is a critical step toward building a competent workforce that can drive our economy,” said a government spokesperson. The AITB and FAO provided technical and financial support, emphasizing the importance of agriculture and industry linkages.

The findings are expected to guide policy reforms, investment in training facilities, and the development of new curricula tailored to sectors such as agriculture, construction, and technology. International partners have praised the move as a model for other developing nations. Next steps include validating the mapping results with stakeholders and launching pilot programs in select regions. The government aims to present a detailed action plan within the next six months.
