J&K Govt Approves Land for Mobile Towers in Underserved Remote and Border Areas
Land sanctioned across 12 areas for BSNL mobile towers under USOF to expand 4G connectivity, strengthen emergency communications and bridge the digital divide.
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has approved the provision of land for installation of mobile towers in underserved and remote areas across the Union Territory under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), aimed at strengthening high-speed telecom connectivity in rural and border regions.
Land has been sanctioned for the establishment of mobile towers in Uri, Tangmarg, Karnah, Kalakote, Kralpora, Basantgarh, Khour, Latti Marothi, Banihal, Pogal Paristan, Ramsoo and Qila Darhal.
The initiative is part of efforts to expand 4G connectivity to areas that remain underserved due to difficult terrain and geographical constraints. The telecom infrastructure is being developed through BSNL under the Universal Service Obligation Fund to achieve wider network saturation.
Improved mobile connectivity is expected to provide significant benefits to residents of remote and border villages by facilitating access to online education, e-governance services and digital platforms. It will also strengthen emergency response communications, particularly in areas where reliable telecom services are essential during emergencies and other exigencies.
The expansion of the network is expected to help bridge the digital divide between urban centres and geographically remote communities, enabling rural residents to access essential digital services and communication facilities.
The move will also support greater digital inclusion and improve communication infrastructure in strategically important border and far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
With the provision of land now approved at identified locations, the initiative is expected to facilitate faster development of telecom infrastructure and contribute towards broader 4G saturation across the Union Territory.
The expansion of mobile connectivity is aimed at ensuring that residents of remote areas are able to benefit from the growing digital ecosystem while improving access to essential services, communication and emergency support.
