Guntur's ₹13,724-Crore Railway Overhaul: 8 ROBs, Guntur-Guntakal Doubling to Ease Traffic

Railway infrastructure works worth ₹13,724 crore are currently underway in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, as announced by local MP Pemmasani. The comprehensive package includes eight road-over-bridges (ROBs) aimed at improving road connectivity and safety. The foundation stone for the Gaddipadu ROB was laid last week; it will carry Inner Ring Road traffic over a level crossing that sees 78 trains daily, significantly reducing waiting times and congestion.

The largest single component of the investment is the ₹4,306-crore doubling of the Guntur-Guntakal railway line, a critical route for freight and passenger movement in the region. The projects are expected to enhance rail capacity, speed up train operations, and boost economic activity. MP Pemmasani highlighted that these works are part of a broader effort to modernize railway infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh, with a focus on safety and efficiency.

The completion of these projects will have far-reaching implications for regional connectivity, trade, and daily commuting. Improved rail links between Guntur and Guntakal will facilitate faster movement of goods, including agricultural produce and industrial materials, supporting local industries.
