ECI Launches Special Drive to Enrol Left-Out Electors in Villupuram

The Election Commission of India will conduct a special drive to enrol left-out electors in Villupuram district. District Election Officer Sheik Abdul Rahman clarified that Declaration Forms attached to Form 6 will be used only during the SIR phase, while standard forms under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, will apply otherwise.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to conduct a special drive to enrol left-out electors in Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure comprehensive electoral inclusion. The announcement was made by District Election Officer and Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman, who outlined the procedural framework for the drive. The initiative aims to bring onto the electoral roll those eligible citizens who were previously missed during regular enrolment processes.

According to the official release, the Declaration Form attached with Form 6 will be used exclusively during the Summary Revision (SIR) phase, while for the non-SIR period, the forms applicable under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, will be utilised. This distinction is crucial for election officials and applicants to avoid procedural errors. The ECI's move underscores its commitment to maintaining an accurate and inclusive voter list, particularly in regions with historically lower enrolment rates. Villupuram, a district in northern Tamil Nadu, has seen periodic efforts to boost voter registration, but gaps remain.

The special drive is expected to enhance democratic participation by ensuring that no eligible voter is disenfranchised due to administrative oversights. It also highlights the ECI's adaptive approach to electoral roll management, balancing between special revision phases and standard procedures. As the drive unfolds, its success will depend on effective outreach and coordination with local authorities. The ECI has urged all eligible citizens in Villupuram to avail themselves of this opportunity and register to vote.
