Diesel Crisis: UK Pump Prices Surge to Near Record Highs

The average price of a litre of diesel at UK forecourts has climbed to 198.32p, the RAC motoring body reported on Wednesday, bringing it within touching distance of the all-time high recorded earlier this year. The figure marks a sharp increase for drivers already grappling with a cost-of-living crisis.

The RAC attributed the surge to elevated wholesale fuel costs and ongoing global supply constraints, including reduced refining capacity and geopolitical tensions. Diesel is now significantly more expensive than petrol, widening the gap between the two fuels and adding further pressure on transport operators and consumers.
