Bucs Bolster Secondary: Sign CB Brandon Johnson to Practice Squad After Steelers Poach Sean Murphy-Bunting

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed first-year cornerback Brandon Johnson to their practice squad on Tuesday, the team announced. The move comes after the Pittsburgh Steelers signed cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting off the Buccaneers' practice squad to their active roster, creating an open spot on Tampa Bay's 17-man unit.

Johnson, a first-year player, joins the practice squad to provide depth in the secondary. Murphy-Bunting, a former second-round pick by the Buccaneers in 2019, had been on the practice squad before the Steelers added him to their active roster. The Buccaneers now have a full practice squad again as they continue their regular season.

The transaction reflects the ongoing roster management typical of NFL teams, as practice squad players can be signed by other teams' active rosters. The Buccaneers will look to Johnson to develop within their system, while Murphy-Bunting gets an opportunity with the Steelers. Further updates on the Buccaneers' roster moves are expected throughout October.
