SLUG: 25 YEARS OF PM MODI

New Delhi, October 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday completed 25 years as head of government, marking a political journey that began with his appointment as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001 and later took him to the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi.
Modi assumed office as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and remained in the post until 2014. He became Prime Minister in May 2014 and has since served as the country’s head of government.
On the milestone, Modi received congratulatory messages from several world leaders, including Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever and Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
Takaichi congratulated Modi on completing 25 years in public office and praised his political leadership and contribution to India’s development.
“Today, on the 25th anniversary of Prime Minister Modi's tenure as Chief Minister, I extend my heartfelt congratulations,” she said.
The Japanese Prime Minister also recalled Modi’s hospitality during her visit to India in July and highlighted the growing India-Japan partnership. She said the two countries would work together to take their “Special Strategic and Global Partnership” to a new stage.
“With Prime Minister Modi, I will further strengthen our partnership through even closer collaboration,” Takaichi said, referring to the shared vision of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever also congratulated Modi, describing his 25-year political journey as one of continuous leadership from Gujarat to New Delhi.
“I warmly congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 years of continuous leadership in government, from Gujarat to New Delhi,” De Wever said in a post on X.
De Wever, who visited India last month, said he looked forward to further strengthening the partnership between India and Belgium. During his visit, the two sides discussed cooperation in areas including defence, trade, investment, semiconductors, fintech and critical minerals.
Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit also extended his greetings to Modi, describing him as a “dear friend” and highlighting the close ties between India and Dominica.
“My dear friend, Prime Minister @narendramodi, I warmly congratulate you on 25 years of continuous service as Head of Government, a journey that began in Gujarat and has continued through your leadership of India,” Skerrit said.
Skerrit added that he valued the relationship between India and Dominica and expressed his desire to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Nigeria’s Presidency also issued a message from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulating Modi on completing 25 years as head of government.
