The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced on [date] that its citizen-centric portal, Sanchar Saathi, has crossed 30 crore visits, marking a significant milestone in India's fight against telecom fraud. The platform allows citizens to report fraudulent or unauthorized mobile connections and track lost or stolen handsets, directly contributing to the blocking of millions of such connections and the recovery of more than 14 lakh devices.

According to official data, the initiative has also prevented suspected cyber-fraud losses exceeding ₹5,000 crore. The portal's success underscores the role of public participation in strengthening telecom security. Launched to curb rising incidents of SIM swap fraud, fake connections, and mobile theft, Sanchar Saathi integrates various services, including the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) and the Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAFCOP) system. Officials credit the surge in visits to increased awareness and the ease of reporting through the portal.

The milestone highlights the growing effectiveness of digital governance in India and sets a precedent for other nations grappling with telecom-related crimes. As cyber threats evolve, the DoT is expected to expand the portal's capabilities, potentially integrating AI-driven fraud detection and real-time alerts. The success of Sanchar Saathi demonstrates how citizen engagement, coupled with technology, can yield tangible results in safeguarding digital infrastructure and consumer interests.
